In Hereford, Bright Biomethane constructed a biogas upgrading plant of 1,000 Nm³/hr biogas in combination with a CO2 recovery system of 850 kg/hr. The project is built at a large AD plant that produces biogas out of cattle manure, chicken manure, apple pomace and maize silage. The biogas from the AD plant is upgraded to biomethane and then injected into the national gas grid. About 4,000,000 Nm³ of biomethane will be injected into the grid annually, equivalent to the gas consumption of approximately 2,500 households. Besides the CH4, also the CO2 will be recovered in the integrated system. The CO2 from the process will be cooled and pressurized to make it liquid. This liquefied CO2 can then be utilized by utilities such as greenhouses, slaughterhouses or the food and beverage industry. When no liquid CO2 production is required the recovery system can be put in a stand-by mode that requires no additional energy.
