Project story – Austria
What if flue gas were no longer just a waste stream, but the basis for a valuable raw material? In Austria, HoSt Group demonstrates exactly that with an innovative carbon capture installation at a family-owned business that uses wood for sustainable heat and electricity production. The installation captures CO₂ from the flue gases released during the gasification and combustion of biomass, and processes it into food-grade liquid CO₂. This is then supplied to local customers, such as breweries. In addition, the process yields carbon residue that is used as an additive for producing more CO₂-neutral concrete. In this way, the project contributes to multiple steps in the sustainability transition of industry, showing how residual streams from energy production can be given a second life as raw materials.

Project story – The Hague, Netherlands
The Netherlands has just marked a milestone in sustainable water treatment: the country's first CO₂ liquefaction installation at a water authority, built into the fully operational Houtrust wastewater treatment plant in The Hague. As part of the Delfland 3 project, HoSt Group turned sewage sludge into green gas while capturing, purifying, and liquefying the CO₂ released in the process, cutting emissions by roughly 50 percent and supplying the liquefied CO₂ to greenhouse growers in the Westland region. Behind the achievement lies a complex engineering puzzle: fitting cutting-edge technology into an existing, active site without disrupting daily operations. From 3D scanning entire buildings to reworking pipework around explosion-safety requirements, this project shows how customisation, precision, and innovation can turn a technical challenge into a fully functioning, sustainable installation.
