Construction of a Bright CO2 liquefaction system in Germany for VORN Bioenergy

13 August 2024
Bright is contracted by VORN Bioenergy to ensure the realization of the CO2 liquefaction plant in Brandis, Germany. Recently, Bright started with the construction of this project and project completion is estimated for the fall of 2024. The CO2 liquefaction plant will produce 1,200 kg per hour of bio- CO2 with a purity of 99.9%. VORN Bioenergy will market their generated bio-CO2 and supply this to their partner.

Project scope

The project includes a CO2 liquefaction system featuring two CO2 storage tanks of 70 M3 and the latest software and control system with a liquid CO2 analyzer.

Peter Kemink, representative for the German market at Bright Renewables: “This project will be the first to be realized from our valued collaboration with VORN Bioenergy. Similar to Bright, VORN Bioenergy recognizes the increasingly vital role of sustainable energy in the modern energy mix. With our sustainable energy technology, we aim to drive the energy transition.”

CO2 liquefaction plant

The CO2 liquefier that Bright delivers is a perfect solution for the reduction of the CO2 footprint of a biogas facility. Features such as our containerized design, minimize construction time on site and result in a quick installation. Furthermore, the system contains an innovative cooling design, which uses CO2 as a refrigerant. This means that the technology uses natural refrigerants to liquefy the bio-CO2. This design has the least impact on the environment when compared to other more polluting refrigerants. Additionally, the use of natural refrigerants also optimizes energy consumption, making it a more sustainable and cost-effective solution.

“This collaboration enhances our mission to drive the energy transition. Bright’s CO2 liquefaction technology supports our expertise in driving energy efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and maximizing economic performance.”
