BioCO2 production

This project at a wastewater treatment plant of Waterschap de Dommel in Tilburg, the Netherlands produces renewable natural gas from sludge. CO2 from the biogas upgrading process is captured and liquefied to produce food-grade liquid bio-CO2. Not only will this technology reduce carbon dioxide emissions and thus improve the CI score, but liquid bio-CO2 is also a clean and environment-friendly substitute for liquid CO2 from natural gas (a by-product of the fertilizer production industry with a negative contribution to global emissions).

Service & maintenance

Waterschap de Dommel secured a multi-year service and maintenance contract with Bright, ensuring minimum to no downtime of the facility and efficient production of food-grade liquid bioCO2 and sustainable renewable natural gas. Additionally, the essential combination of biogas upgrading and CO2 liquefaction technology results in 100% methane recovery and improvement of the CI score.

Customer testimonial

Waterschap de Dommel is profoundly proud of our Dutch collaboration, as Jan-Evert van Veldhoven, manager Realisatie Waterketen at Waterschap de Dommel, stated:

“This conversion of sludge to biomethane and bioCO2 at our WWTP facility with efficient and sustainable technology and reliable service is a key driver in achieving our 50% CO2 reduction goal by 2025. This initiative, a testament to our commitment to the circular economy, fuels the heat transition by providing an alternative to natural gas, potentially reducing costs for taxpayers. We are profoundly proud of this Dutch collaboration with Bright”.
