From factory floor to ribbon-cutting: Bright Renewables’ biogas upgrading and CO2 liquefaction plant goes live in Sindelfingen

It started on the production floor at InstalSolutions, where our CO2 liquefaction system for a customer in Germany took shape. This unit is only one half of the project: alongside it, an UltraLow-E biogas upgrading system was being built to work in tandem, forming a complete solution for turning raw biogas into clean, usable energy, and capturing valuable CO2 along the way.

 

 

Engineered for efficiency

The UltraLow-E upgrader was designed with more than additional revenue in mind. It delivers higher sustainability, lower electricity consumption, and reduced operating costs for the plant operator. Paired with CO2 liquefaction technology, as in this project, the combined system can reach an electrical consumption as low as 0.17 kWh per Nm³ of raw biogas, a benchmark that reflects just how efficient modern upgrading technology has become.

With both systems built and tested, they were shipped to Germany, ready to be installed on the grounds of the former Sindelfingen district landfill.

An official opening, and a regional milestone

That journey from factory to shipment came full circle when we joined local and national German politicians on site to celebrate a major milestone for Stadtwerke Sindelfingen: the official ribbon-cutting of the new biogas upgrading and CO2 liquefaction plant. It was a day of celebration, marking the moment organic waste in the region officially began its transformation into renewable energy.

Turning waste into a valuable by-product

At the heart of the plant, membrane-based biogas upgrading works alongside CO2 capture and liquefaction, producing liquid bio-CO2 as a valuable by-product rather than a waste stream.

The completed project delivers:

  • Renewable energy to power 1,800 local households
  • 1,100 Nm³/h of biogas upgrading capacity
  • 1,000 kg/h of liquid CO2 production

One system, built to last

From the first components taking shape at InstalSolutions to the ribbon being cut in Sindelfingen, this project shows what’s possible when biogas upgrading and CO2 liquefaction are engineered to work as one system: efficient, sustainable, and built to serve the local community for years to come.
