From flue gas to resource: CO₂ capture installation in Austria
The installation was built at a family-owned company active in sustainable energy generation, using wood to produce i.a. heat and electricity for the region.
Turning emissions into value
Instead of being emitted, the CO₂ becomes a valuable product. The liquefied CO₂ is supplied to local customers, including breweries and other industrial users.
The installation is also part of a broader circular system. The gasification process produces a carbon residue that can be used as an additive in cement. “This makes it possible to produce more CO₂-neutral concrete. The system contributes to multiple steps in making industry more sustainable.”
Thomas on from design to real-world application
For Thomas, this project was special because he was involved from concept to realisation. “You start with an idea and develop it step by step. In the end, you see your own design operating as a real installation in the field, or in this case, on the roof of the client.”
The on-site experience provides valuable insights. “In practice, you see how the system behaves under real conditions. That helps you improve the design and develop better systems in the future.”
